The Group:
The band Mapik Hey formed over a six day period in East Windsor, NJ. There two people, from two different backgrounds and two completely different states, met and just clicked. At the NCSY National Yarchi Kalla they came together to form a group that would change history, Mapik Hey. (Well maybe not history, but we'll try :]) By the end of the convention Mapik Hey had claimed NCSY stardom, having performed their hit single "Welcome to National Yarchi Kalla." Even the Jewzic (Jewish Music) legend Shloime Dachs got into it. Leaving the convention with a wedding booked and a CD hopefully in the works, Mapik Hey can only go up from here.

What does Mapik Hey mean?

Mapik Hey is a Hebrew letter. More specificaly, it is a Hey with a dot in the center.

Why Mapik Hey?

As Moe so apply puts it, A Mapik Hey is something that is different, it is also a relatively unknown. This is exactly what our band is, different, and relatively unknown.
A deeper reason, as Dan apply puts it, the Mapik Hey is comprised of three parts. The first part, the largest, represents the froom yiddin (religious Jews), though it is the most complete of the parts, it still is lacking. It can't be complete because we are in golus and no longer have the Bais Ha'Mikdash, the temple. The second part, the shorter leg, is not as complete as the first part, it represents the non-observant Jew, This person is proud of the fact that they are Jewish and base some part of their lives around that fact. However, they could be doing more even now. The last part, the dot in the center, is the smallest and least complete. It represents the Jew who only knows that he is Jewish and nothing more. Regardless of the desire to know more, they are not in a position to become religious. It is only when all three parts of the letter are together that you get the Mapik Hey. This is the lesson needed for all of us Jews. Only when every Jew accepts one another for where they are can we be complete and whole and ready to be redeemed and brought into the world of Moshiach Bemhayra Biyamaynu, Amen.
